Magnetic level gauges are widely used liquid level measuring instruments, applied in numerous industries such as power, petroleum, chemical, environmental protection, shipbuilding, and construction, largely due to their many advantages. However, nothing in the world is perfect, and magnetic baffle level gauges are no exception. Therefore, understanding the advantages and disadvantages of magnetic baffle level gauges, fully utilizing their strengths and mitigating their weaknesses, will help us use them more effectively.

Measurement Principle of Magnetic Level Gauge

Magnetic level gauges are based on the principles of communicating vessels and magnetic coupling to achieve real-time measurement and display of liquid levels. When the liquid level in the container rises or falls, the magnetic float inside the float also rises or falls accordingly. The permanent magnet inside the float drives the magnetic baffle outside the float to rotate 180° through magnetic coupling. The two sides of the baffle are painted with different colors (usually red and white) to indicate the liquid level position. Generally, when the liquid level in the container rises, the baffle changes from white to red; when the liquid level in the container falls, the baffle changes from red to white. The intersection of the red and white lines on the indicator is the actual height of the liquid level in the container.

Advantages of Magnetic Level Gauge

1. Simple structure, intuitive readings, easy installation, low maintenance cost, and high cost-effectiveness.

2. Good sealing and vibration resistance, high reliability, and adaptable to working conditions with large liquid level fluctuations.

3. Compact magnetic calibrator structure, easy to use, and adjustable on-site.

4. By adding a remote transmission unit component, on-site indication, remote transmission, and alarm control switches are integrated, realizing automatic and remote liquid level control.

5. Can be equipped with additional devices such as steam jackets, electric heating, heat preservation/insulation, and antifreeze, suitable for various complex working environments.

6. Wide range of applications and diverse forms, suitable for measuring liquid levels under various working conditions (such as high temperature, high pressure, and corrosive environments).

7. Measurement is unaffected by pressure, vacuum, temperature, foam, and viscosity.

8. Permanent display without external power supply.

9. Custom designs available according to customer needs.

Disadvantages of Magnetic Level Gauge

1. Lower accuracy, generally between ±5.0mm and ±10mm.

2. Limited measuring range. Large-range magnetic baffle level gauges are inconvenient to transport and have a relatively large installation volume.

3. After long-term use, if there are deposits inside the magnetic baffle level gauge, it will affect the up-and-down movement of the float within the outer protective tube of the waveguide. To prevent jamming, it must be cleaned regularly.
